Electricity prices are on the rise in Germany

Price increase at the turn of the year

At the turn of the year, electricity prices rise in many places. In almost all federal states, many of the basic suppliers will be charging more for a kilowatt hour from 1 January. The reasons are the rising EEG levy of more than five percent and rising grid costs of six percent.

As the chart from Statista shows, only the two city states of Hamburg and Berlin are not affected. The highest price increase, 12.7 per cent, is in Bremen, although only one out of five basic suppliers raises prices at the turn of the year.

According to the comparison portal Verivox, most households in Bavaria are affected. A total of 77 of the 236 basic suppliers are increasing prices there by an average of 5.8 percent.
